An international team development program where I ended up on the teaching side for ROS 2

Overview
In the summer of 2025, I took part in an international joint training program held at the College of Engineering of Pusan National University in Korea, run as part of the Shibaura Institute of Technology Global PBL program, with a scholarship. I joined as a student, but in the ROS 2 and robot control sessions I effectively ended up teaching, and I completed all seven sessions in English.

The first orientation
Group workThe course ran for seven sessions in total. It opened with Introduction to gPBL and an explanation of the Working Day, then moved through the philosophy of ROS, environment setup, development tools, and motion planning, with the final two sessions covering the introduction and practice of direct teaching.
Hands-on session with a robot hand mechanismI was also able to pull my weight in keeping the practical environment running. When students hit trouble with their Ubuntu setups, or when the DNS of the Eduroam academic network caused problems, I identified the cause each time and dealt with it, falling back to tethering or repairing environments one machine at a time, and got everyone through to the hands-on work. Solving trouble on the spot while the lectures went on was a big gain in itself.

Hands-on work in the robot arm training roomOver the seven sessions, I felt keenly the gap between being able to do something myself and guiding others until they can do it too. Bringing together English, live demonstration, and diagrams, I got every participant through to the hands-on work, and my own grasp of ROS 2 manipulation came out much better organized. That skill has carried straight over into my later robot development work. It was a rewarding program in which the one doing the teaching learned the most.
